Heavy rain, wind and cool temperatures could not contain the Warriors as they took down The Wellington School 2-0 at Athletes in Action last night, improving to 6-0 on the season. 10 minutes into the match senior captain Noah Alexander connected with senior captain Sam Reid breaking into space and slotting a ball past the keeper. It was Reid’s 7th goal of the campaign. 12 minutes later Alexander found Senior Mikey Smith in behind the defense, Smith poked it around the keeper and found the back of the net, his 8th goal of the season. The Warriors defense continued a stout performance for the rest of the match preventing scoring opportunities for the Jaguars. Senior captain Paul Socha tallied another shutout for the Warriors, his 3rd on the season.
With two assists last night (12 on the season), Noah Alexander passed Mark Jackson’s record for career assists at 72. Jackson held the record for 36 years.
The Wellington School entered the match unbeaten and ranked #4 in the state. This win, along with Tuesday’s win over Cincinnati Country Day (#2) marks the first time in program history that DC has defeated 2 teams ranked in the top 5 in the state in the same week. The Warriors were ranked #3 in Ohio this week and the week 2 poll will be released on Monday.
The Warriors are back in action at home vs. Franklin-Monroe on Monday night at 7:30 pm at Ron Pinsenschaum Memorial Stadium.
