The Middle School Baseball team overcame a three-run deficit in the 5th inning and held off a late surge by Beavercreek to secure a big win against Beavercreek Thursday night. The Warriors took an early 2-1 lead in the 1st inning when Noah Wickline singled with bases loaded, which was quickly followed by a single from Dean Dershem that scored the second run. Down 5-2 in the bottom of the 5th, Isaiah Freeman reached on a hit-by-pitch, Alec Halter singled, and Wickline reached on a hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Dys’son Wilcox was also hit-by-pitch to bring home the first run of the inning. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Arty Rand hit a triple to Right Field scoring all three base runners. The Warriors added one more run in the 6th inning when Reid Collins walked and scored on a passed ball giving DC a two-run lead going into the final inning. The insurance run proved to be the game winner as Beavercreek was able to muster one run in the top of the 7th before DC was able to close out the game.
Noah Wickline started for the Warriors on the mound and went 5 innings striking out 4 and only walking 1. In his longest outing of the season so far, Wickline threw a lot of strikes and was in command of his fastball. Alec Halter came in to close the game in the 6th walking 3 and striking out 6, including the final batter with bases loaded. The Warriors take on Bellbrook Monday afternoon at Action Sports Center in Dayton.
