What started out as a pitchers duel for the first three innings of the game, turned into a big win for DC over Middletown on Tuesday night. Alec Halter started on the mound for the Warriors and went three scoreless innings striking out 8 batters and walking 3. Noah Wickline went two innings with 5 strike outs and 3 walks and Gabe Knopp closed out the last two innings striking out 6 and walking 2. In total, the Warrior pitchers only gave up one hit the entire game. Defensively Dys’son Wilcox and Caleb Forte had great plays in the outfield to stop any sort of rally by Middletown.
The DC offense got a quick run in the 1st inning when Halter singled on a ground ball scoring Titus Riddell from 3rd. The 4th was a big inning for DC that started with Wickline hitting a single that scored Reid Collings, then Arty Rand singled scoring Forte and Wickline, and ended with Shawn Collier hitting a sacrifice fly to score the 4th run of the inning. DC went on to add 3 more runs in the 6th when Halter and Rand went for back-to-back triples, Nolan Ogburn hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield scoring Rand, and Knopp walked with bases loaded to score Heath Conely. The Warriors added their final two runs in the 7th when Sam Ferriman walked with bases loaded to score Rand, and Forte hit a ground ball to score Ogburn.
A great first win for the Middle School Boys. They will be back in action on Friday Night at Greenview. Go DC!
